John provides consulting services in the firm’s commercial litigation practice. The commercial litigation involves hearings in the Federal Court and Federal Magistrate’s Court, New South Wales Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, District Court and Local Court.

John has over 36 years experience in various areas of litigation including defamation, insolvency, bankruptcy, equity, commercial, family law, corporate criminal matters and police court matters. He has been involved in various matters in the High Court of Australia and also in the last case which was referred to the Privy Council in London in 1986.

John was initially employed by the Commonwealth Crown Solicitor. John was an Associate and Partner of Smithers Warren & Tobias which became known as Phillips Fox and was the partner in the Commercial Litigation Department. John was a court appointed arbitrator hearing commercial disputes in both the District Court and Local Court. John has served as a director of various companies including public companies. John lectures to students at TAFE studying for an advanced diploma in accounting, teaching Commercial Law 1 and 2, Banking and Finance and Insurance Law as well as lecturing to small business students in respect of the legal aspects of small business and lecturing in occupational health and safety to a variety of students. John also lectures in marketing law and ethics.

John was admitted as a solicitor in 1973. He does not currently hold a NSW practising certificate and is an Associate as that term is defined in the Legal Profession Act.
